BA (Hons) Journalism – University of Sunderland

BA (Hons) Journalism is a programme that helps you develop skills across the board. It has news and magazine journalism at its core but it allows you to branch out into specialist areas so that when you graduate you can meet the challenges of the industry head-on.

All our lecturers are passionate practitioners and there are regular masterclasses with journalism’s leading lights, including editors, star reporters and famous broadcasters. Visiting professors such as The Mirror’s Kevin Maguire and Good Morning Britain editor Neil Thompson pass on advice and their experience.

Graduates have themselves gone on to exciting careers with national and regional newspapers, magazines, TV companies, PR and marketing firms and organisations specialising in web and social media work.

A key element of BA (Hons) Journalism is the range of optional subjects you can take over the course of your three years, among them modules in sports writing, fashion journalism, public relations and investigative journalism.

The course offers real-world experience in our MediaHUB newsroom where you will hone your skills on websites covering news, sports, fashion and culture. You can also broadcast on our award-winning Spark Radio station.
