MA Journalism – Liverpool John Moores University
This vocational programme is taught using industry-standard facilities so you gain the hands-on experience you will need in your day-to-day work as a journalist covering news, sport and everything in between.
You will learn practical skills in interviewing, writing, reporting, filming, editing, shorthand, CMS and analytics, as well as further your understanding of media law and ethics and how public bodies work. You will also develop skills in analysis and interpretation, initiative and research, which are essential in any career.
You will receive practical training in multi-media news production and bulletin techniques, using cameras, editing software, and learn how to present out “in the field” and in the studio.
You will be taught by journalists working in the news industry who have many years’ experience and excellent links to local news groups and broadcast outlets like Sky News and more.
The course includse industry placements with media organisations, including national news outlets, and you will be taught in the £38 million Redmonds Building with industry-standard facilities including several high-spec newsrooms, TV studios, audio and video editing booths and a fully kitted media store.
You will also have the opportunity to sit and pass (NCTJ) exams and acquire their full diploma, with all first attempts at NCTJ exams paid for by the university.
And you will develop a published portfolio, including work on the Liverpool Life website.
