Reuters is seeking an energetic journalist with a track record of outstanding beat reporting to cover China’s vast agriculture sector. The successful candidate will break news and report and write on a full range of agriculture stories for a demanding global audience, from grain harvests and international trade to futures and physical markets, disease outbreaks and Beijing’s ongoing efforts to bolster the country’s food security. The successful candidate will be a proven source-builder with strong story instincts and an eagerness to build expertise on the world’s biggest consumer of most key agricultural commodities, delivering outstanding coverage for both specialist and general readers.

About the Role

In this opportunity as China agriculture correspondent, you will:

  • Build sources in trading firms to break news on purchases of key farm commodities including crops, pork and dairy products
  • Report on often opaque government policies and their impact on global agricultural markets
  • Cover trade in agricultural futures and physical markets
  • Track key companies and technologies that are reshaping the agri landscape in China
  • Write fast and accurate headlines and stories under time pressure
  • Work closely with colleagues in the China commodities and energy team and around the world
  • Use graphics and other story-telling elements to maximize the utility of stories

About You

You’re a fit for the role of China agriculture correspondent if your background includes:

  • Great ideas and demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding stories
  • Strong news judgement
  • Strong Mandarin and fluent English, with strong writing
  • Demonstrated ability working with data and an interest in markets
