We are looking for an Assistant Entertainment Editor to join our growing Mirror US team! Reporting to the Head of Showbiz & TV, you will play a big part in achieving key traffic targets, helping to oversee the showbiz team’s output and working with the Deputy Showbiz & TV Editor to deliver key objectives.

Job Description

As the Assistant Entertainment Editor, you will support the management of the Showbiz team to deliver day-to-day showbiz and entertainment content, helping to shape the daily news list and ensure we are striving for the biggest stories, the strongest angles and exclusives. You will  be responsible for devising content plans for TV show launches and forward planning for major upcoming showbiz events, as well as taking a lead on creating the weekend content lists.

You will manage reporters’ day-to-day activities to ensure we remain ahead of our competitors and up to date on the key stories of the moment, as well as being held accountable for departmental traffic targets. You will be expected to attend meetings as required and provide reports on analytics and the team’s progress.

You will edit copy in real-time with the confidence to publish at speed in a breaking news scenario, all while ensuring showbiz and entertainment output is legally and ethically compliant, in line with Reach’s internal protocols and US law.

 

Shift Patterns

This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.

Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately 1 month in advance. This is subject to change depending on team availability and as a result of current showbiz and entertainment news affairs, and so we therefore require a level of flexibility in this role. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm EST will have the flexibility to be completed remotely. Weekend shifts are also required due to the nature of the role, however you will receive days back in lieu as a result.

The working hours for this position will be:

Early – 7:00am – 3:00pm EST

Late – 3:00pm – 11:00am EST

Weekend: 10:00am – 6:00pm EST

 

Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic and digitally savvy editor, with their finger on the pulse of the latest showbiz and entertainment news and is keen to get stuck into the biggest stories of the day. You have the ability to maintain acute attention to detail as you edit copy in real-time and thrive when working in a fast-paced environment.

You will be able to demonstrate a passion and knowledge of showbiz and entertainment news and a detailed understanding of the US media landscape. Importantly you are an excellent communicator and leader who is capable of inspiring and motivating a team

There may be opportunities to be sent out on assignment to cover major events within the showbiz and entertainment space, and so you must feel comfortable and confident to use your knowledge to operate independently. You must be able to work flexibly, as this role involves shift work that includes evenings and weekends.
