Audience Editor – WalesOnline – Reach (Cardiff, UK)

We’re looking for an Audience Editor to join our team at Wales Online, one of the UK’s biggest and best regional news websites.  You will have a key role in shaping WalesOnline’s content, reputation and success, working closely with reporters and news editors to devise, publish and promote outstanding content every day.

It’s a hugely exciting role at the heart of what is by far the biggest news website in Wales. You will promote excellence across our website, social media platforms, newsletters, WhatsApp communities, commenting and registrations. You will have oversight of our overall performance against key overall metrics.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will be part of the newsdesk, finding and telling stories and videos which engage as many readers as possible, and stories which will be of interest to local communities.  You will have a detailed understanding of how and where different audiences can be found, and how this translates to content decisions and work on our social media platforms on a day-to-day basis to deliver brilliant and engaging posts.

You will be responsible for successful delivery of newsletters, optimising open rates and click throughs, building communities on platforms such as WhatsApp which support KPIs of registered customers and audience scale.

You will Encourage best practice among reporters around engagement: building communities, being involved in conversations, being accessible to readers, finding audience and be a leader in the newsroom on innovative storytelling on the website and on social media and encourage the same behaviour and skills in others.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification and media law knowledge, with a detailed understanding of how and where different audiences can be found, and how this translates to content decisions. This is a senior job which will give you the chance to be a leader in the newsroom, be innovative in storytelling and social media posts and encourage the same behaviour and skills in others.

You will get to work on breaking news of major significance to our audiences. We are looking for journalists who are curious to find out what’s going on around them, to answer the questions our readers want answered, who find time to listen to conversations and ask what they can add, and who believe journalism does its best when it is read by as many people as possible. You’ll want to deliver stories which make people come back to our site time and again.
