Duty Editor – Thomson Reuters (London)

This position will be based in our London newsroom.

 

Reuters is looking for an accomplished news Duty Editor to run our video news intake desk in our London global news hub. This is a great opportunity to join a multi-skilled team that delivers planned coverage to deadlines and excels at breaking news coverage. As a Duty Editor, you’ll have the opportunity to combine your strong video news background with your leadership experience to form a key link between the news gathering in our bureaus and our news Output (production) teams.

 

You’ll take responsibility for overseeing a daily news file and will shape the priorities of a team of staff tasked with delivering fast, accurate and original coverage to our diverse global client base that includes more than 1,000 broadcasters and digital media outlets. You’ll ideally be a journalist looking to marry a passion for news with the detail of the logistics that make things happen across a range of stories both for edited and live content.

About the Role

 

As a trusted Duty Editor at Reuters, you will:

  • Take a lead role in shaping the direction of the daily video news file.
  • Manage the allocation of resources for daily news gathering.
  • Respond courageously to major breaking news events.
  • Work with senior bureau producers and video regional editors to ensure teams are positioned to deliver high-quality live and edited video at speed to all Reuters customers.
  • Manage the daily spend on acquiring video content, including from third party sources.
  • Coordinate with colleagues from text and photography to deliver multimedia content that is very strongly customer focused.
  • Feedback to bureaus, regional hubs and staff on issues of quality.
  • Champion high performers and hold staff accountable on performance.
  • Ensure Reuters news coverage remains independent and free from bias, with the highest standards in the news industry.

 

About You

 

You’re a fit for the role of Duty Editor at Reuters, if you have:

  • Demonstrable editorial experience in agency and/or broadcast television news gathering and production position.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate teams.
  • A track-record of delivering breaking news fast. Ability to drive speed and accuracy.
  • A deep understanding of the digital landscape and the needs of Reuters’ customers.
  • A thorough understanding of the latest digital visual technologies for news gathering and delivery of content.
  • Experience of managing teams in hostile environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly.
  • An unwavering commitment to accurate, impartial reporting.
