Are you a natural leader with a strong background in journalism and editorial production? We’re seeking a forward-thinking, experienced and passionate editor to lead across a number of our print and digital products.

The key responsibilities of the role are a combination of traditional editorial leadership and internal culture change. You will provide leadership and direction to the editorial content creation teams working across print and digital, inspiring and developing staff, ensuring decisions are in line with strategic goals and upholding the key values of the brand.

  • An advocate for the audience, ensuring quality information and reader needs are at the heart of the newsroom’s reporting.

  • Someone who will ensure that content across all platforms is relevant, of high quality, legally sound, and in line with the strategic direction and mission of the brand.

  • A confident and trusted senior team member who will become an ambassador and advocate for the business, internally and externally.

  • A leader who will innovate and encourage innovation in others, exploring new ways of reaching audiences and telling stories.

Operationally you will:

  • Be an excellent people manager with proven organisational skills.

  • Have a good working knowledge of KPI tools such as Google Analytics and real-time analytics such as Chartbeat, and an understanding of how these can inform content decisions and publishing schedules.

  • Strong understanding of the key principles of SEO and how to apply them in a newsroom setting to enhance reach and content visibility.

  • Have a deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, audience needs, and how to use social media to source and share stories to engage with audiences.

  • Be aware of different customer loyalty opportunities, such as newsletters and podcasts, and how they can build an engaged audience.

  • Have a passion for great journalism that connects with local audiences, in print and digitally.

  • Have an innovative and inquisitive mindset, keeping abreast of changes and trends in digital journalism.

  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Be a strong networker who is keen to build relationships with external stakeholders and act as an ambassador for the brand and company.
