We are looking for a Entertainment Reporter to join our growing US newsroom team! Reporting to the Deputy Showbiz and TV Editors, you will produce quality and exclusive content for the-express.com. You will be responsible for covering the biggest entertainment stories in the US in a compelling and engaging way as one of the leading members of our team of reporters.

Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle – all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description

As the Entertainment Reporter, you will find and write exclusive stories and breaking news with speed and accuracy for our digital publication, that set us apart from rival publications and encourage audience engagement. You will attend forward planning meetings to coordinate our coverage of major upcoming showbiz events, and pitch stories to the editors on a daily basis with confidence.

You will write factually accurate copy without errors at speed that is compliant with law and industry standards. You will understand and monitor key traffic analytics and use these to inform decision-making as we continue to grow and reach new audiences.

You may be sent out to events as required, operating independently whilst on the road. You will also conduct interviews with contacts, whether in person or virtually, building relationships and trust in the industry.

Shift Patterns
This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.

Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately 1 month in advance. This is subject to change depending on team availability and as a result of current showbiz and entertainment news affairs, and so we therefore require a level of flexibility in this role. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm EST will have the flexibility to be completed remotely. 1 in 3 weekend shifts a month are also required due to the nature of the role, however you will receive days back in lieu as a result.

The working hours for this position will be:
Early – 7:00am – 3:00pm EST
Mid  – 10:00am – 6:00pm EST
Late – 3:00pm – 11:00pm EST

 

Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic and digitally savvy reporter, with their finger on the pulse of the latest showbiz and entertainment news and is keen to get stuck into the biggest stories of the day. You have the ability to maintain acute attention to detail as you write factually accurate copy at speed and thrive when working in a fast-paced environment.

You will be able to demonstrate a passion and knowledge of showbiz and entertainment news and a detailed understanding of the US media landscape. You should  possess a strong contacts book for exclusives, and be comfortable building relationships and trust with others in the industry.

There may be opportunities to be sent out on assignment to cover major events within the showbiz and entertainment space, potentially involving overnight stays on occasion, and so you must feel comfortable and confident to use your knowledge to operate independently whilst on the road. You must be able to work flexibly, as this role involves shift work that includes evenings and weekends.
