Live Pages Journalist – Thomson Reuters (London)

Are you a versatile multimedia journalist with excellent writing skills? Do you have a startup mindset?  If so, you might be an ideal candidate to join the newly created Live Coverage team at Reuters. It’s a small team of journalists drawn from text, photo, video, and non-traditional media backgrounds who gather Reuters journalism from around the world to create rolling news Live Pages on the biggest stories of the day.

Some Live Pages will cover pre-planned events such as elections and major financial announcements. Others will be major breaking news stories or important topics such as climate change. All are fused into a multimedia feed of text, video, pictures, graphics, and social media in a mobile-first presentation. The new curation of Reuters journalism launched in March 2024 and is now expanding. Here’s a link to the Live Page we did on the Russian presidential election:

We are currently looking for 2 Live Pages Journalists to join our London team.

 

About the Role

As a Live Pages Journalist you will:

  • Bring ideas, energy and enthusiasm to a versatile cross-discipline breaking news  team.
  • Work on combining and/or creating text, video, photo and graphics posts, and editing as needed.
  • Curate Reuters TV, pictures, text, graphics social media and reports from other major news outlets to report on the biggest global stories.
  • Produce short, tightly written but accurate text posts under intense deadline pressure, and/or edit short news video clips; select pictures and edit their captions quickly and accurately.
  • Be a resourceful researcher who on days when no Live Page is published can news plan and generate ideas to create posts for future Live Pages, drawing on Reuters immense archives and the collective expertise of its journalists around the world.

 

About You

To be our Live Pages Journalist, you will likely have:

  • Strong experience dealing with breaking news and an ability to ensure adherence to the Reuters Trust Principles in a fast-moving situation.
  • Prepared to be scrambled for an assignment at short notice.
  • You are a team player who is willing to share your skillset and acquire others’.
  • Be a multi-skilled journalist who can from day one fit into an integrated text and visuals setup.
  • Have the flexibility to tell a story in the most appropriate medium or combinations of media.
  • Publishing/direct injecting of breaking news experience is a significant advantage.
  • You will have the ability to identify, source and direct inject digital social media content from X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube posts from non-Reuters sources into a Reuters news feed.
  • Functional proficiency with video editing software to cut and post standalone clips is a plus.
  • Experience of web publishing software to be able – on day one – to publish video, text, graphics and social media content on a third party content management system, is another advantage.
