Product Research, Manager, Publishing Editorial

In close collaboration with your Senior Manager in MSP, you will manage individual contributors on the Codes Editorial team of Attorney Editors based in Manila. This team currently focuses on various tasks related to statutes, administrative codes, and court rules in the United States and the United Kingdom. This position will be based in Manila using a hybrid-working model. In this role you will do the following:

People Management

  • Successfully coach individual contributors and support direct communication between Senior Manager and team as well.
  • Model behaviors and Ways of Working that have a positive impact on staff.
  • Continuously communicate team performance to Senior Manager, and ensure individual contributors deliver on expectations; and communicate clear goals that support the delivery of impactful work against team OKRs.
  • Provide guidance and direction; and ensure team is focused on the most important priorities.
  • Attract and develop great talent and participates in interview and candidate selection with Senior Manager.
  • With Senior Manager and Codes Management, set goals around individual talent development and team diversity and inclusion.
  • Identify development areas, provide timely feedback and coaching to direct reports, and effectively address under-performance.
  • Positively resolve issues among team members and communicate issues to Senior Manager for awareness.
  • Learn and adapt, and bounce back quickly from setbacks, encouraging team to do the same.

Communication, Collaboration & Influence

  • Proactively communicate with Senior Manager to ensure that new team is successfully engaged as part of the larger Codes Editorial organization and achieving goals as set out in business plans, probationary standards, Workday goals, etc.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager and other managers in the group to share resources so that the highest priority work is completed.
  • May perform Editorial work of team to meet currency and quality expectations of customers.
  • Support collaboration within the team by coaching and encouraging staff to look beyond own work and step in where the need for help on the team is most urgent.
  • Maintain active communications with Senior Manager and across management team to alert others about issues encountered by team and to help establish best practices.
  • Establish fruitful relationships with managers outside of department and looks for opportunities to build on those connections.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently to team about department and company initiatives.
  • Successfully represent TR as a leader participating in Meet the Customer and other events.
  • Lead through influence to drive results across multiple, cross-functional teams.

  • Know Thomson Reuters content and products within team’s scope of responsibilities.
  • Understand customer needs and how customers use the team’s products.

  • Understand how products are created, maintained and sunset; and collaborate with Senior Manager and product partners to deliver optimal results.
  • Explain business priorities, values, and strategies to team; and ask Senior Manager or others when priorities, values, or strategies are unclear.

About You:

You’re a Fit for the Role of Manager, Codes Editorial, if You:

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Understand legal research products and the needs of legal researchers.
  • Are comfortable leading staff and collaborating with management and peers to address business needs.
  • Are an analytical thinker and collaborative teammate who uses logic and discretion to collaborate with global teammates to solve difficult problems.
  • Some supervisory knowledge, skills & experience
  • Strong preference for content management, editing, and publishing experience.
  • Are decisive with a focus on making quality decisions quickly.
  • Are comfortable with personal computers and familiar with word processing and online applications including the Microsoft 365 suite of apps and Adobe apps.
  • Can prioritize tasks and projects and pursue them with energy and drive.
  • Are a strong, proactive, and assertive communicator who can speak and write clearly and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside Thomson Reuters, across the globe.
  • Can lead by influence and example and can collaborate with Human Resources and Senior Manager to address employee concerns and performance issues.
  • Can plan and directs work activities to meet product targets and customer specifications.
  • Can utilize and leverage people, systems, processes, and resources to meet workflow requirements and optimize efficiency.
