News Editor, Video – Thomson Reuters (London)

Reuters is looking for an experienced News Editor to work in our global news hub in London. They will be primarily focused on our output but will have the ability to jump into a number of the senior newsroom functions as required.

Curation of our agency video output plays an increasingly important role in our product offering and the successful candidate will help set strategy for elements of the file that contain an archive element, such as Timelines and Profiles.

About the Role

As a trusted News Editor at Reuters, you will:

  • Work closely with Reuters Planning and Output Editors to shape the priorities of our coverage, including assessing how to leverage the Reuters archive and ensuring our storytelling is distinctive.
  • Step into the Output and Intake Editor roles as required to drive our daily coverage.
  • Cover the Sub Editor role, ensuring our scripts are accurate, impartial and move quickly.
  • Be across style changes and work with editors to evolve our style as client needs and products change.
  • Join our team of trainers in London training our staff and freelance teams in Reuters standards and storytelling.
  • Develop a strategy and guidelines around leveraging the extensive Reuters archive to serve our clients better.
  • Line-manage members of the team working on the global production desk.
  • Respond confidently and quickly to major breaking news events.
  • Coordinate with colleagues from text and pictures to deliver multimedia content that is strongly customer focused.
  • Feedback to bureaus, regional hubs and staff on issues of quality and story structure.
  • Champion high performers and hold staff accountable on performance.

About You

To be a News Editor at Reuters, you will likely have:

  • Senior editorial experience in agency and/or broadcast television, digital newsgathering and production.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate teams.
  • A deep understanding of the digital landscape and the needs of Reuters customers.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly.
  • Ability to drive speed and accuracy.
  • An unwavering commitment to accurate, impartial reporting.
