We are looking for a Night Reporter to join us at the Liverpool Echo, to respond to and report on breaking news and trends across Merseyside, ensuring our coverage is seen by the widest possible audience. .

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and experienced reporter to get out into the many vibrant communities that make up the region, knocking on doors and finding stories to amplify and promote our digital storytelling.

This role is based in our Liverpool Hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.

 

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will be first on the scene, responding and reporting on breaking news, finding and telling stories about local communities through a variety of mediums. From written articles to real time live blogs, your content will engage as many readers as possible, building communities both online and in real life.

You will ensure all your content is thoroughly researched, accurate and balanced prior to publication. You will travel to where the story is on your patch, always ready to report on the biggest story of the night, from in front of or behind the camera. This role will involve working 3pm-11pm shifts Monday to Friday so a flexible approach to late coverage and the unpredictability of breaking news is key.

 

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

Essential: 

  • An NCTJ level qualification or above with in depth knowledge of media law is essential
  • A proven track record of publishing digital content, working a CMS, shooting video and taking pictures for stories is essential
  • Demonstrable experience covering breaking news on the scene is essential
  • Previous experience as an on patch reporter in a digital publishing environment is essential
  • You have excellent local knowledge and are able to travel where the story is within your patch
  • Good working knowledge of social media platforms and live streaming is essential
  • Being confident reporting in front of the camera (or being willing to learn) is essential

Desirable: 

  • Due to the need to be on the scene quickly and working late shifts, a driving licence is highly desirable
  • 100 wpm shorthand or working towards this is desirable
  • Experience building online communities is desirable
