NEWS REPORTER

FARMERS WEEKLY

Are you a determined journalist looking for a new challenge?

Farmers Weekly, Britain’s leading agricultural media brand, published by Mark Allen, seeks a news reporter. If you want to break stories that matter to an audience navigating turbulent politics, a volatile business environment, and the impact of climate change, we want to hear from you.

One day you could be contact building over coffee in Westminster before rooting through the accounts of a company in the agricultural supply chain that may be about to go under. Later that week you could be on a trip to Herefordshire to unpick what a bitter court battle over water quality means for farmers in the River Wye catchment area. This role also has responsibility for managing the community beat, tackling the cultural and social topics that matter to farmers, from health and wellbeing to quirky charity fundraising efforts, from an upbeat perspective.

Working as part of a supportive team of five other news and business journalists, you’ll be given regular opportunities to travel across the United Kingdom and occasionally overseas.

This is a hybrid role, up to 3 days in the Sutton, Greater London office, with a starting salary up to £32,000 (DOE) plus benefits. We will provide on-the-job training where required so you feel fully supported.

Highlights of the Role:

  • Cover key agricultural events and conferences across the UK and internationally.
  • Engage in in-depth investigative reporting on pressing issues affecting the farming community.
  • Be at the forefront of reporting on breaking the biggest farm policy and food chain stories.
  • Participate in exciting new project launches aimed at expanding our digital presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and investigations on assigned topics.
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts within the agricultural sector.
  • Write and edit high-quality news articles for print and digital platforms.
  • Manage the community beat, focusing on cultural and social topics important to farmers.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop engaging and informative content.
  • Travel as required for reporting assignments and events.

Who Would Thrive In This Role?

  • Someone with a passion for journalism and storytelling.
  • A proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Someone with excellent research and investigative skills.
  • A team player who enjoys collaboration and contributing to a supportive team.
  • An individual interested in agriculture and rural affairs, with a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing farmers today.
