Senior Broadcast Journalist, Money & Work, News Content – BBC (Singapore)

Job Introduction

The Money & Work team is part of News Content – which provides news reports for television, radio and online/mobile platforms both in the UK and internationally.  The Money & Work team provides video, audio and online content of the highest possible editorial and technical standard.

The Singapore bureau is the Asia hub for business news, covering business and economic stories across digital and broadcast platforms in the UK and internationally.  The bureau produces the Asia morning primetime business programme, Asia Business Report on BBC World News.

 

Main Responsibilities

This position involves planning and outputting (line-producing) a business news programme across several hours.

You will also be responsible for originating stories and treatments to ensure a compelling programme that engages audiences in Asia and around the world.

You will creatively plan content, graphics and guests to create an authoritative and engaging program across a wide range of topics involving business, economics, technology and politics.

You will effectively deploy strong editorial judgement in setting the day’s business agenda.

You will work closely with the Senior Producer and Singapore Bureau Editor to plan and execute compelling business coverage.

You will collaborate effectively with a small team, including the Asia Business Correspondent, to field produce story packages, interviews and live reports.

There may be opportunities for reporting on air (radio and television) as well as online.

Are you the right candidate?

  • Significant experience in television production
  • Confident outputter (line-producer) who is flexible and quick-thinking in the gallery.
  • Good knowledge of television production processes. An understanding of the main production methods of BBC News.
  • Strong skills in writing television copy as well as in preparing briefing notes for presenters and producers.
  • Good knowledge of business and economic affairs, particularly in Asia, and strong news judgement
  • Creative journalist who  always keeps top of mind that television is a visual medium, finding ways to tell business stories that engage audiences
  • A self-starter who can work independently, takes ownership and responsibility
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully in a small and diverse team.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to build relationships and establish rapport with key people; producers, presenters, crew, guests, sources, PR professionals.
  • Familiarity with using digital platforms to source stories, guests and treatments.
