Salary: £43.000 – £53.000  depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape and implement our Digital Video Journalism, in an ever evolving technological environment.
Our Digital sport journalists ensure we provide daily coverage of sport news stories, live fixtures and creative bespoke sport content. Our aim – to give our audiences a broad and balanced view of what’s going on in the world of Sport.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of the BBC Sport website, the needs of its audiences and be passionate about driving the departments Digital Video growth and identity.

You will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of core BBC editorial standards and the values of impartial journalism – trust, accuracy and creativity. You would have a strong awareness and experience of compliance for responsible journalism on difficult stories.

You would be working primarily to the BBC Sport website and Social Media platforms, but working closely with the Digital Video Assistant Editor to help drive daily sport news and bespoke sport features across our Digital Video / Social platforms.

We want BBC Sport’s output to properly reflect the audiences we serve, including the different geographical regions of the UK. Engaging underrepresented audiences is a priority, with a focus on younger audiences and people from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds. Also people with a lived experience of disability, individuals from the LGBTQ+ community and lower socio economic groups are important audiences we want to reflect.

Main Responsibilities

To play a key role in helping deliver outstanding Digital Video sport news coverage, particularly to engage our younger audiences.

As part of the editorial team, this role will involve sub-editing breaking sport news stories, features and helping run our portfolio of bespoke Digital Video coverage.

This will also include finding innovative and creative ways to reflect our sport journalism Online and on our Social Media platforms, whilst working with colleagues across the department to deliver solid and industry leading Digital Video content.

A proficient working knowledge of the editing, written and graphics systems / templates we use is essential, as well as finding collaborative ways to help us be more digitally focussed and efficient across the department.

You will also be required to help organise plans to make sure all of our events are covered and ensure that staff are briefed and supported. Looking after rotas for a small team and occasional shift flexibility is also required.

Are you the right candidate?

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about sport.

  • Someone with substantial editorial and production experience working within a Digital Video environment.
  • Must have a strong understanding of what on-demand media our younger audiences consume.
  • The successful candidate must be a team player with excellent communication skills.
  • They will be highly motivated and passionate, with strong organisational skills.
  • They will also be collaborative in their approach and thorough in their delivery, as well as work well under time pressure.

 

BBC Sport Online has a global audience of 27m browsers a week and you will be making key decisions within that environment. Proven editorial judgement is essential.

 

This is not an entry level role.
