As a Senior New Reporter you will pitch stories to the Editors on a daily basis and will be responsible for finding exclusive stories that set the news agenda and differentiate us from rival publications!

As a senior member of the team you will attend planning meetings to coordinate our coverage of major upcoming events. As a result of this you may then be required to head out on assignments, so you must be comfortable and confident to use your knowledge to operate independently whilst on the road. You will conduct interviews with key contacts, whether in person or virtually, and build relationships and trust in the industry.

Other duties include:

  • Write breaking news and factual copy in a digital format, with speed and accuracy, that is compliant with law and industry standards
  • Attend news conferences as required and help to coordinate coverage of the day’s biggest stories
  • Understand and monitor key traffic analytics and use these to inform decision-making
  • Occasionally deputize for members of the news desk by editing copy and assigning stories to reporters as required

Shift Patterns

This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.

Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately 1 month in advance.

The working hours for this position will be predominantly 9:00am – 5:00pm EST. However, this is subject to change depending on team availability and as a result of current news affairs, and so we therefore require a level of flexibility in this role.

A week of late shifts (3:00pm – 11:00pm EST) every 5-6 weeks is also required. These shifts will have the flexibility to be completed remotely.

Approximately 1 weekend shift a month will also be required, however you will receive days back in lieu as a result.

Qualifications

We are looking for a dedicated and digitally savvy reporter who is keen to get stuck into the biggest stories of the day, who can operate independently and be trusted to find exclusives that set us apart from our competitors. You should have previous experience of working within a news organization and thrive when working in a fast-paced environment.

You will have a detailed knowledge of the US media landscape and news agenda, and have the ability to maintain acute attention to detail.
