Location: Office Base is BBC Yorkshire in Leeds.

The BBC Yorkshire online team covers one of the largest and most diverse news patches in England.

We represent audiences in North, South and West Yorkshire – so that means cities such as Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford and York as well as coastal towns, rural villages and everything in between.

We have offices at BBC Yorkshire in Leeds as well as bases in Sheffield, York and Bradford and work closely with colleagues from television and local radio stations to tell people stories which reflect their lives or tell them things they didn’t know.

As a Senior Journalist, you will help inspire, guide and challenge our team of Journalists who produce content for local, regional, national and international audiences.

You will have substantial experience in text-based journalism, and some experience as a sub-editor and/or news editor. We also want to hear about your social media experience too.

As a Senior Journalist you will play a key role in supporting the Senior News Editor in delivering a multi-platform newsroom.

In addition to that you will be delivering our main roles: news editing (deciding the stories we cover and how we do so, as well as allocating them between reporters); subbing (ensuring our stories are accurate, fair, balanced, concise and well-written); planning for the following day and beyond; and working effectively with colleagues in radio, television and social media.

Our ideal candidate will be a creative, experienced, delivery-driven journalist with a strong pedigree who is confident in daily news journalism (online, newspapers, agencies).

• You will preferably have already gained experience as a news editor and sub-editor and thrive under considerable pressure.
• You will have the people skills to be able to support and challenge reporters of varying levels of experience and skill and help to get the best out of them.
• You’ll be able to demonstrate your knowledge of social media both as a newsgathering tool and to effectively promote our content.
• Your news judgement is excellent and you have a solid current knowledge of media law and the BBC’s Editorial guidelines.
• You want to break stories and have a track record of original, agenda-setting journalism.
• You recognise that the BBC is an audience-focused business and keep in mind that we should be serving all communities within our region.
