Senior Producer – Podcasts (Freelance) – The Times (London)

The Team: Times Podcasts is responsible for design and producing a range of podcasts that match the breadth, depth and dynamism of the journalism found in The Times and The Sunday Times. The team is expanding to test new podcast ideas and to help produce an existing portfolio which covers politics to sport, and we are looking for both Producers and experienced Sr Producers to join an experienced group of programme makers.
Your role: As a Podcast Producer or Sr Podcast Producer, reporting to the Editor, Times Podcasts you will identify, pitch and develop compelling podcast series often in partnership with our talent, correspondents and producers. You will work closely with some of Britain’s leading journalists, creating audio that sets the news agenda and examines major stories in a new light.
Day to day you will:
● Identify existing internal podcast opportunities while producing new original podcast offerings, both daily
and/or serialised storytelling
● Manage podcast productions, including budgets, staffing and creative.
● Work with staff on best-in-class digital podcast practices.
● Partner with cross-network teams on marketing, sales, and communication strategies.
● Forward plan and generate fresh ideas.
● Potential unsociable hours including weekends
● Sr Producers will be expected to work more independently and with the capacity to approve material and
instruct the work of others
What we’re looking for from you:
You are a Podcast Producer, or Sr Producer proactive, organised and are great at multitasking. You will have a great track record in audio storytelling ideally with production on a successful podcast, or radio programme.
● Knowledge of recording and editing audio and familiar with software
● Detailed knowledge of the legal framework for journalism in UK, and industry guidelines
● Excellent writing skills
● Strong and creative ideas on how to make compelling content.
● Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to react positively to change
● You will have an ability to influence and build long lasting relationships
● Effective communication skills with the ability to work closely with presenters and within a team
● A creative mind and ability to think differently and be proactive
● Sr producers will have to show ability and experience leading others through complex productions
