Social Media Editor – Daily Express – Reach (London)

We are looking for a Social Media Editor to join us at the Daily Express. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive web traffic, maximise engagement and increase brand awareness.

Reporting into the Head of Social, the Social Media Editor will be responsible for managing the Daily Express’ social media channels including Facebook, X, TikTok and Instagram.

We are looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to use your social media skills to tell the stories we believe are important for our Express community so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will find and pitch stories using analytics and tools to tell you what’s already trending, as well as finding the next big stories yourself. You will play a leading role in driving best practice among the team and passing your knowledge on to the wider newsroom. You will edit and post stories and videos on our social pages while coming up with new creative ways to drive traffic to the Daily Express website and grow our audiences.

You will forward plan social media content, covering live events and breaking news on social media while monitoring the external landscape to identify trends. You will communicate your findings while sharing knowledge and best practice across the business, but particularly in the newsroom. You will take a proactive approach in reviewing and developing the long-term strategy of the social team. This role will involve weekend and evening working so a flexible approach is required.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification and media law knowledge, you’re an excellent communicator who is able to sell stories with flair, passion and skill. You are a fast and accurate journalist with excellent digital and social skills, and you are able to sell stories in the best way to appeal to our audiences.

You will have good experience of managing social media accounts in a newsroom environment, and will be ready to take on more responsibility. You have  detailed knowledge of and demonstrable experience using Facebook, X , Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and other social media platforms.
