Visuals journalist – Thomson Reuters (London)

Reuters is looking for a talented video journalist to join the UK & Ireland team.

Our team delivers news footage to more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world. The successful candidate will be an experienced news videographer who can shoot, edit and write to very tight deadlines in the fast-paced environment of the world’s leading news agency.

As a Visuals Journalist, you’ll be passionate about UK news and culture, brimming full of ideas, and embracing new technology, camera kits and tools to ensure that Reuters video coverage stands out. You should be digi-literate and with familiar with the wide range of outlets that use Reuters material, from TV to TikTok. The winning candidate must have a proven track record as a team player, be a self-starter with plenty of initiative to generate story ideas and inject creativity into storytelling.

 

About the Role

 

As Visuals Journalist, UK & Ireland at Reuters, you will:

 

  • Work closely with the bureau to produce high-quality multimedia stories in a fast-moving business for our client database of more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world. You’ll also work with hundreds of print and digital pictures clients.
  • Shoot, write and edit a variety of stories, centred on the UK and Ireland, working within tight deadlines.
  • Use your excellent organisational skills and flexibility to adapt to the inevitably fast-changing rhythm of a news organisation’s day.
  • Combine your ability to break news and tell stories with your innovative nature to make a substantial contribution to the debate about how we cover our stories, what elements are needed and how they perform.
  • Tackle stories from a diversity of viewpoints, experiences and perspectives.

 

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Visuals Journalist, UK & Ireland at Reuters if you have:

 

  • An excellent news judgment, with a clear editorial vision and an understanding of what makes a good visual story.
  • Advanced camera and video editing skills, with the ability to shoot and produce basic news edits against very tight deadlines.
  • The ability to produce tight, well-written accurate news copy to deadline and react quickly to breaking news, offering live cover as appropriate and taking an active role on daily planning for coverage.
  • Willingness to work both alone and with a wider collaborative team, with the ability to travel at short notice to major international news stories, including hostile environments.
  • A full, UK driving license
  • Thorough understanding of the latest digital video technologies for filming, editing, transmitting and sharing.
  • Ability to quickly and proactively source UGC and other 3rd party content, especially for breaking news
  • A passion to uphold Reuters Trust principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias
