The Liverpool Echo is looking for a What’s On Editor to create and commission authoritative and informed content aimed at an audience seeking authentic recommendations on how to spend their spare time.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified journalist bursting with creativity and flair with excellent storytelling abilities and a deep understanding of Liverpool’s leisure sector. You will immerse yourself in Liverpool’s cultural world, using your expert knowledge of the city to keep a finger on the pulse of the latest venues and openings, attending and covering events, including evenings and weekends as required.

This role is based in our Liverpool city centre Hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.

 

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will oversee the sourcing, creation, production and sharing of engaging food, drink and entertainment content with an authentic Liverpool voice. You will forward plan content enabling the Liverpool Echo to maximise coverage for major events including the Grand National, Creamfields and more. You will use and build on your extensive network of contacts across the city, acting as an expert and ambassador for the Liverpool Echo’s What’s On brand, becoming a trusted authority for our readers.

You will ensure all What’s On content is published to a high standard including but not limited to articles, pictures, video, audio and strong headlines. You will utilise your SEO skills to ensure we are publishing timely and relevant content, to remain the go-to website for things to do and places to go in and around Liverpool. You will manage relevant site sections, social feeds and newsletters to boost content, using analytics to inform content choices. Though the role reports locally within the Liverpool Echo, the role is also part of our wider Reach Content Hub, so you will develop effective and meaningful working relationships with colleagues across the wider business.

 

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are a senior NCTJ or equivalent qualified journalist (or relevant time served experience) with a deep understanding of media law. You have a proven track record of understanding, writing and publishing What’s On content in a fast paced newsroom environment. You have first-class writing skills and can generate content ideas that engage and delight our audience, using your enviable contacts to let our readers know about the latest fun events happening in and around the city.

You are an expert on all things Liverpool who takes a hands-on approach to your content. From reviewing the newest bars and restaurants, to trying out the latest family friendly excursions, you have the local knowledge required to be a trusted guide for our audience. You have excellent social media, communication and organisational skills with the ability to work closely with other editorial teams.
