The best performers in the last academic year’s NCTJ media law exams were honoured at the Media Law Seminar on 30 March, winning awards sponsored by Johnston Press and Oxford University Press.
Alice Neal, who studied at City College Brighton and Hove, was presented with the award for the best performance in the Essential Media Law exam. Alice was presented with a cheque for £250 and a certificate from OUP editorial director Penelope Woolf.
Since completing the course Alice has been working as an English Language teacher and freelancing for various in-flight magazines and science journals. She is also a volunteer studio manager at a community radio station and is in the process of writing a law handbook for them.
Daniel Bell, who also studied at City College Brighton and Hove, won the award for the best performance in the Media Law Court Reporting exam. Daniel was unable to attend the seminar due to work commitments but said: “Andrew Knight, our teacher, was not only an encyclopedia of knowledge when it came to media law but was incredibly well liked by everyone on the course. The preparation we received was extremely thorough and Andrew made sure we were up to speed – mainly through incessant homework!”
Daniel gained communications experience prior to taking the NCTJ course and is now working as a researcher for The Legal 500. He was also the winner of the award for best performance in the NCTJ Essential Public Affairs exam.
