Five outstanding journalists shortlisted for the Student of the Year in the NCTJ’s Awards for Excellence

Five high-flying journalists have been shortlisted in the Student of the Year category in the NCTJ’s Awards for Excellence 2022.

Five high-flying journalists have been shortlisted in the Student of the Year category in the NCTJ’s Awards for Excellence 2022.

Out of the 1,163 students who completed NCTJ-accredited courses in 2021-22, five have been selected for the shortlist, recognising the outstanding results they achieved in the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism.

The Student of the Year shortlist, in alphabetical order by surname, is:

  • Charley Bergman, who studied at Leeds Trinity University and is now a journalist at ITV Calendar
  • Blanca Schofield, who studied at News Associates London and is now a journalist at The Times
  • Jack Walton, who studied at News Associates Manchester and is now a writer and editor at independent Liverpool publication The Post
  • Anna Wise, who studied at News Associates London and is now a business reporter at PA Media
  • Marcus Wratten, who studied at Kingston University and is now an entertainment reporter at Pink News

The Student of the Year shortlist can now be announced after students studying in 2021-22 received their final diploma results earlier this month.

The winners of each category will be announced at a ceremony and awards lunch, which will take place at Twickenham Stadium on Thursday, 2 March.
