Leaders in journalism training will gather at the NCTJ’s sixth annual Journalism Skills Conference on Wednesday, 27 November to discuss the pressing issues facing the industry.
Hosted by Bournemouth University media school and sponsored by the Southern Daily Echo, the conference will begin with a key note address by John Ryley, head of Sky News, who will present his thoughts on the challenges for the industry and the future of journalism training.
Conference sessions on Wednesday and Thursday will focus on a series of panel discussions based around four key themes: journalism and the digital age; skills and the economics of journalism; how the core journalism skills are changing; and training responsible professionals.
The line-up of speakers includes representatives from across the print, broadcast and online sectors.
Around 100 guests will attend the gala dinner and awards ceremony at the former home of the Bournemouth Echo printing presses, the Art Deco-themed Print Room. The Awards for Excellence will be presented to students and trainees who have demonstrated excellence in journalism and the top-performing NCTJ-accredited courses will also be revealed.
ITV journalist and broadcaster, Mark Austin, will return to his old training ground to give the after-dinner speech and present the Awards for Excellence and course-provider awards. The evening will culminate in the presentation of the Chairman’s Award for outstanding contribution to journalism training.
