Industry professionals to host conference workshops
A series of interactive workshops have been planned for the second day of the NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference in Belfast on 1 December, each involving industry experts.
A series of interactive workshops have been planned for the second day of the NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference in Belfast on 1 December, each involving industry experts.
The workshops focus on different specialist areas of journalism and are designed to help journalism trainers teach students the skills they will need to find employment in these areas. The subjects are: finance and economics; health; international journalism; and lifestyle, and delegates will be able to register to attend two of the four workshops.
Each workshop will be hosted by experienced industry professionals including: Robyn Bechelet, managing editor at Archant Life; Marion Bowman, director of One World Media; Marie-Louise Connolly, health and social affairs correspondent at BBC NI; Richard Evans, head of communications at World Cancer Research Fund; Jim Fitzpatrick, economics and business editor at BBC NI; and Margareta Pagano, business editor at the Independent on Sunday. Additional participants will be announced shortly.
The second day of the conference takes place at the University of Ulster and will also include a session about the media in Northern Ireland. On the first day, delegates will visit the Northern Ireland Assembly and Belfast Metropolitan College and cover topics including regulation and ethics, and digital skills in journalism. There is also a gala dinner and drinks reception at Belfast City Hall on the evening of 30 November.
