Journalism Diversity Fund bursaries awarded

Five aspiring journalists have been awarded bursaries by the Journalism Diversity Fund following interviews with a panel of media professionals.
The successful recipients in the second round of bursaries for 2012/2013 are: Nadya Ahmed, Jonathan Cronshaw, Khaleda Rahman, Sophie Mei Lan Slack and Richard Wilson.

They will be studying NCTJ-accredited courses at Nottingham Trent University, Leeds Trinity University College, News Associates London, University of Salford and Lambeth College.

Interviews took place at the NCTJ offices in Newport, Essex, on Friday 10 August.

The panels, which consisted of Graham Dudman, editorial development director, News International; Laurie Tucker, day editor, Sky Sports News; Colleen Harris, journalist and presenter, BBC Essex; Bob Satchwell, executive director, Society of Editors; Alice Ryan, content editor, Cambridge Magazines; and Barry Hunt, commercial editor, Archant Herts and Cambs, quizzed interviewees on their passion for journalism, financial need and diversity.

Bursaries are awarded four times a year to students studying an NCTJ-accredited course. They are awarded to students from socially or ethnically diverse backgrounds and can help them cover the cost of course fees and living expenses.

The third group of bursaries for the academic year September 2012- August 2013 are now open. The application deadline will be Friday 26 October 2012 at 5pm.
