Local businesses had the opportunity to boost their media skills last week, thanks to introductory workshops delivered by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

The nationwide training body, which is based in Newport, Essex, ran two special, discounted workshops in conjunction with the Newport Business Association at its offices on Friday, 13 July.

One workshop provided an introduction to press and PR skills while the second gave an introduction to writing for the web. Both were designed to help local organisations promote themselves more effectively and to expand and develop their business, and were delivered by a highly experienced former newspaper editor, broadcaster and commentator.

The workshops received great feedback with 100% of attendees saying that they will help them to work more effectively. All delegates also said they would recommend the workshops to others and would be interested in attended any future courses.

Given the success, the NCTJ may look to run additional workshops later in the year and any further details will be made available on the website www.nctj.com.
