NCTJ anniversary conference this week

The NCTJ is rounding off its 60^th anniversary celebrations this year with a special Journalism Skills Conference in Belfast this Wednesday and Thursday – 30 November and 1 December.

As well as featuring speakers from the world of politics and the media it will also be a chance to celebrate the quality journalism training that exists in Northern Ireland. During the packed programme, delegates will visit the new Belfast Metropolitan College Campus at the Titanic Quarter and also the University of Ulster Belfast City Centre Campus at York Street.

Speaking about the conference, Belfast Metropolitan College director and chief executive, Marie-Therese McGivern said: “We are delighted to be hosting part of the NCTJ annual conference.  We would like to congratulate NCTJ in celebrating 60 years of quality journalism training. The College has a reputation for providing talented and skilled journalists and we hope to further enhance our association with NCTJ.”

Dr Colm Murphy, head of the University of Ulster’s School of Media, Film and Journalism, added: “At a time of great debate about journalism ethics and new technology, it is fitting that the most influential people in journalism education in the UK will be discussing these issues in Belfast. 

“A number of journalists in Northern Ireland have risked their life and liberty to live up to the highest principles of the profession and many of the best in the world learnt their craft here during the Troubles.”

The NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference brings together decision makers in journalism’s education, training and industry sectors and is a must-attend annual event for those who are passionate about quality multimedia journalism.

This dynamic conference will provide the opportunity for stimulating discussions about the latest issues associated with developing professional journalists across all media sectors. The conference will also be an occasion to network and celebrate the achievements of those involved in journalism education and training.
