NCTJ board re-accredits 18 journalism training courses

The NCTJ board has re-accredited 21 journalism training courses delivered at nine centres across the UK.

The NCTJ board has re-accredited 18 journalism training courses delivered at nine centres across the UK.

All the courses were visited by an accreditation panel of editors during March, April and May. Accreditation for a period of two years until 2012 was awarded to each course by the board at a meeting on Thursday 3 June.

The 18 courses re-accredited by the NCTJ board are:

 

Bournemouth University, BA (Hons) Multi-media Journalism; De Montfort University, PgDip/MA Journalism / BA Journalism; Nottingham Trent University, BA (Hons) Print Journalism; MA/PGD; Newspaper Journalism; Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, MSc Journalism; Sheffield College, Norton College; Press Photography/Photo-journalism eight-week block; Press Photography/Photo-journalism pre-entry 26-week; Staffordshire University, BA (Hons) Journalism; MA Journalism; Teesside University, BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism Professional Practice; University of Brighton, BA Sports Journalism; University of Sunderland, BA Journalism; BA News Journalism; BA Magazine Journalism; BA Sports Journalism; MA News Journalism; MA Magazine Journalism.

 

The board turned down two applications for accreditation and both centres will continue working towards the standard. There were two advisory visits for new courses and four monitoring visits to check on centres’ progress against their action plans.

Two universities – Edge Hill University and the University of Cumbria – are not recruiting students for 2010/11 and the University of Strathclyde is re-evaluating its journalism provision.
