NCTJ Chairman Kim Fletcher will be discussing the importance of shorthand on BBC Radio 4’s Word of Mouth programme on Tuesday 10 May at 4pm.
Each week, the presenter and poet Michael Rosen takes a light-hearted look at different aspects of language, and this week he will be exploring the history of shorthand and its usefulness in the present day. He also speaks to MA course leader David Holmes and shorthand tutor Kay Carl who teach on the NCTJ-accredited courses at the University of Sheffield.
The programme is produced by Luke Hollands of BBC Bristol, a University of Sheffield journalism graduate, who uses shorthand regularly on the job. “I’m a former newspaper reporter and spent many a long hour transcribing NCTJ passages to get to 100 wpm,” he explains.
