NCTJ graduates dominate Regional Press Awards shortlist

Every reporter shortlisted in the Young Journalist of the Year category has successfully completed the NCTJ preliminary exams. One candidate is also celebrating passing her National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ) exams in March and another three are working towards the NQJ after completing pre-entry training with the Gold Standard of A-C grades and 100wpm shorthand.
The five candidates completed their preliminary training at Cardiff University, City College Brighton and Hove, News Associates, Nosweat Journalism Training and University of Staffordshire.
NCTJ trained reporters are also nominated for Business and Finance Journalist of the Year, Specialist Writer of the Year, Feature Writer of the Year, Daily/Sunday Sports Journalist of the Year, Weekly Photographer of the Year, Daily/Sunday Photographer of the Year and Scoop of the Year.
More than 600 entries were received for the awards which aim to recognise brilliant journalism in UK local and regional newspapers in print and online. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Savoy Place, London in May 2013.
