The NCTJ is launching an award to recognise the exceptional work done by reporters under the Community News Project banner.
A partnership between the NCTJ, Facebook and regional publishers, the Community News Project was launched earlier this year.
It has enabled the hiring of 83 trainee reporters to focus on community news coverage.
The new award forms part of the NCTJ’s Awards for Excellence, which recognise the achievements of talented individuals with promising journalism careers ahead of them.
Community reporters recruited as part of the project should submit two pieces of published journalism with a supporting statement explaining the significance of their work.
In choosing the winner, judges will consider:
- The degree to which the work engages relevant community issues
- The quality and impact of reporting
- Evidence of a range of journalistic skills
- Evidence of multi-sourcing
- Human interest potential
Community reporters can also enter the news, sports, top scoop, features and multimedia story categories as trainees.
All shortlisted entrants will be invited to the prestigious gala dinner and ceremony on 28 November at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, where the winners will be announced.
