NCTJ Photography Exhibition opens at The Guardian

A host of media joined the National Council for the Training of Journalists on Friday, 10 June, at The Guardian in London, for the official opening of the charity’s exhibition of quality press photography from the past four decades.

Picture editors and photographers from around the UK, the World Photography Organisation and event sponsor PhotoBox attended the special event to celebrate the talent that exists in the industry.

The exhibition showcases the work of NCTJ-trained press photographers and photojournalists working in regional, national and international media. There are 50 canvases on display, showing a wide range of subjects and photographic styles. The images show events from the 1970s through to the present day.

NCTJ chairman Kim Fletcher welcomed the guests and congratulated the exhibitors on their success.

He said: “The National Council for the Training of Journalists is 60 years old this year – we thought this exhibition was a great way of celebrating the work of some of those photographers who’ve been through our training over the years.

“More than 140 photographs were submitted to us from all over the UK and 50 were selected by the NCTJ photography board. When you look at these pictures you see just what a wealth of talent there is in British media – and we are really proud that the NCTJ has played a part in the development of that talent.”

The exhibition is on display in the atrium of  The Guardian and open to the public until 15 July 2011.
