Senior editors from The Guardian and Sky Sports News will address the NCTJ’s annual shorthand seminar on the need to promote 100wpm shorthand achievement.
The seminar at Mary Ward House in London on 17 May will focus on the continued importance of shorthand for professional journalists.
Chris Elliott, readers’ editor at The Guardian, and chairman of the NCTJ’s accreditation board, will deliver the opening address and Laurie Tucker, day editor at Sky Sports News, will unveil the NCTJ’s new video, produced by Sky Sports News and featuring contributions from journalists and editors across the industry.
The one-day seminar will cover topics such as barriers to learning, shorthand from a student perspective and exams updates.
There will also be the opportunity for journalism tutors to discuss the teaching of shorthand and share best practice.
The event aims to bring delegates up-to-date with key issues and developments in shorthand training and qualifications.
Student awards, sponsored by Ryman, will also be presented for the best shorthand note and transcription at 100 per cent accuracy at 100 and 110 words per minute.
