NCTJ team to tackle triple challenge to raise £5,000 for Thomas Read bursary

The NCTJ and its supporters are taking on Thomas’ Triple Challenge to reach an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000 for the Thomas Read bursary.

The bursary is awarded each year through the Journalism Diversity Fund to help an aspiring journalist with disabilities or long-term physical or mental health problems fund their NCTJ training.

It was set up in partnership with the family of the late Sky Sports News journalist Thomas Read, who died unexpectedly in 2015, aged 25.

Thomas Read

Thomas, who had cerebral palsy, achieved a substantial amount in the field of journalism in a short space of time.

On Friday, 18 October, the NCTJ team will be taking part in a range of physical activities to reach three totals:

  • 1000km by walking or running
  • 2000km by cycling, swimming or rowing
  • 3000kg by lifting (every rep counts, so 5 x reps of 10kg = 50kg)

The NCTJ team will be based at Fitness Focus Gym in Clavering and Thaxted on the day, but anyone can get involved with the challenge by contributing to the above totals.

To take part, just track your efforts and send them to the NCTJ to ensure they are counted. The NCTJ asks everyone who participates to please donate £5 towards the fundraiser.

The NCTJ will post updates on social media throughout the fundraising day, so please get involved and tag us in your photos if you’re taking part.
