New format shorthand distance learning

The new format distance learning shorthand course plan is now available to purchase from our website.

Shorthand is a fundamental skill for all journalists and an accurate shorthand note is vital. Candidates should aim to achieve 100 words per minute (wpm) to improve their employment prospects and to be eligible to sit the National Certificate Examination (NCE).

When you purchase the plan you will receive an instant electronic download of the details. The plan is designed to be used in collaboration with the course textbook – Teeline Gold Standard for Journalists by Marie Cartwright which can also be purchased separately through our shop.

By working through the learning plan with the accompanying textbook and audio materials, you will be able to:

• demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the Teeline theory;
• read and accurately transcribe your own shorthand notes;
• apply your knowledge of the Teeline theory to a pre-determined speed (60-100 wpm);
• work towards achieving a pass in an NCTJ shorthand examination (60-120 wpm).
