Newspaper training expert joins NCTJ board

David has been a journalist for more than 40 years. In 2012 he was awarded the NCTJ chairman’s award for his outstanding contribution to journalism training and education.
As well as holding a number of training roles, David has also edited three daily newspapers.
He started in journalism as a junior reporter and has carried out most journalistic roles. He was editor of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph until 1991 when he set up and ran a training scheme for journalists for the Emap group. Four years later he became editor-in-chief of the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
David was editor of the Northants Evening Telegraph at Kettering and editorial director of Northamptonshire Newspapers before taking up his current appointment which involves him being responsible for the training and development of journalists across Johnston Press. He has also had a central role in the drive to multi-platform journalism.
He is a member of the Johnston Press editorial board and the company’s senior leadership team and is based at Peterborough.
David said: “I’m delighted to join the board at this critical time for journalism. I hope I can play a big part in supporting the organisation to ensure it stays at the forefront of the drive to maintain quality journalism and embed digital skills into the industry.”
