Regional editors to debate regulation and ethics at Journalism Skills Conference
A panel of editors from around the UK will debate issues surrounding regulation and ethics at the NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference in Belfast on 30 November.
A panel of editors from around the UK will debate issues surrounding regulation and ethics at the NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference in Belfast on 30 November.
The panel will be chaired by Tom Thomson, managing editor, Herald and Times Group and the participants are: Richard Best, editor, West Briton; Cathy Duncan, assistant editor, South Wales Evening Post; Jim Flanagan, editor, Ballymena Guardian; Deric Henderson, Ireland editor, Press Association; and Damian Wilson, group editor, Johnston Press Northern Ireland.
They will discuss ethical issues in the regional press, topics surrounding regulation and also cover how editors maintain high standards of journalism and operate within the law.
This session will take place at Belfast Metropolitan College during the afternoon of the first day of the conference. Prior to this, delegates will visit the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont for a Q&A and then attend a session on digital skills and technology.
On the evening of 30 November, there will be a gala dinner and drinks reception at Belfast City Hall, with after-dinner speech from Ray Snoddy OBE. The second day will be held at the University of Ulster and feature industry workshops plus a session on the media in Northern Ireland.
