Reuters to host equality, diversity and inclusion conference 2019

Journalists, editors, employers and educators will join the NCTJ on Thursday, 19 September at the equality, diversity and inclusion conference, which will this year be hosted by Reuters.

The event also invites bursary recipients, mentors, sponsors and supporters to celebrate the work of the Journalism Diversity Fund, which has helped more than 300 people from diverse backgrounds train to become journalists since its launch in 2005.

Joanna Webster, managing editor for strategy and operations EMEA at Reuters (pictured), will chair two panel discussions at the conference.

On balance and fairness in reporting, Joanna will be joined by Kristine Aquino, team leader, markets live EMEA at Bloomberg; Ashley John-Baptiste, senior digital reporter at BBC News; Sami Mokbel, football news correspondent at the Daily Mail, and John Price, senior lecturer in journalism at the University of Sunderland.

Social mobility will be tackled by Priscilla Baffour, global head of diversity and inclusion at the Financial Times; Toby Granville, editorial development director at Newsquest; Rebecca Moore, technical operations manager at CNNI, and Claire Sanderson, editor-in-chief of Women’s Health magazine.

Alison Gow, editor-in-chief (digital) at Reach plc, will talk about the opportunities diversity and change creates for journalism, and the culture of newsrooms.

Attendees will also hear from Dan Wright, one of the first journalism apprentices back in 2013 who has now progressed to news editor at the Kentish Express.
