Ryman increases support of NCTJ students
Ryman is now to sponsor both NCTJ shorthand awards, for 100wpm and 110/120wpm.
Ryman, the UK’s largest specialist stationery store, is extending its commitment to quality journalism training by sponsoring the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ award for the best shorthand performance at 100 words per minute.
Ryman already sponsors the NCTJ award for best shorthand performance at 110/120 words per minute.
These awards are presented to the two students that deliver the best shorthand note and transcription at 100% accuracy in the 100 and 110/120wpm exam. Each student will receive a certificate and a cheque for £250.
Shorthand is a key skill for journalists, who regularly use it to take notes quickly and accurately as they cannot rely on recording devices or use them in court. It is taught on all NCTJ-accredited courses and students are encouraged to achieve the gold standard of 100wpm or more.
Since its conception in 1893, Ryman has provided stationery to generations of journalists. Ryman is also committed to supporting education. It offers students visiting the company’s 237 stores a discount of 10%. NUS Extra member students receive a discount of 12.5%.
