Special event to discuss new multimedia qualification proposals

Progress on the development of the NCTJ’s radical new multimedia structure for journalism qualifications will be discussed at a special forum in April.

The event will be open to heads of journalism running NCTJ-accredited courses and editors and will take place on Tuesday 20th April at Bloomberg in London.  It is being organised in response to demand at the Journalism Skills Conference in December for a further forum to discuss progress given the significance of the planned change.  Delegates will have the opportunity to examine in more detail the proposed syllabus and assessments.

Lyn Jones, NCTJ head of qualifications, said: “It is vital that all heads of journalism on NCTJ-accredited courses attend this forum. It will feature an update on the new multimedia qualification structure and the forum is everyone’s chance to put forward their views on the structure and content.”

The NCTJ’s chief examiners and exam board members are busy developing the programmes of study and sample assessments for consideration by the Journalism Qualifications Board in March.  This will be followed by a period of testing and final adjustments over the summer.

Centres will have the choice of delivering either the new or existing assessments during a transitional year from September 2010.
