Trainee journalists sit senior exams
Ninety trainees sat the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ) for reporters and four sports journalists sat the National Certificate Examination (NCE) for sports reporters on Friday hoping to gain senior reporter status.
Ninety trainees sat the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ) for reporters and four sports journalists sat the National Certificate Examination (NCE) for sports reporters on Friday hoping to gain senior reporter status.
The NQJ and NCE are designed to examine all-round competence in a range of fundamental journalism skills.
The topics featured in the March NQJ papers included the sale of counterfeit alcohol and a raid at a jeweler’s. Sports reporters covered a major announcement by the owner of a local ice hockey franchise, a court case involving a snooker player, and a rescue operation to locate a missing British sailor.
In order to gain senior status, all trainees must be able to extract information using excellent interview techniques, reproduce clear and concise reports in a style that attracts readers and demonstrate they are familiar with day-to-day newspaper practice inside and outside of the office.
The NCTJ would like to thank all those who volunteered their time to help out on the day. The results will be sent to candidates on Tuesday, 15 April.
